A Driversnote or MileIQ alternative for the UK in 2026: pay once, no account
Disclosure: I’m Michael Dunnaway, and I make Quidometer. Keep that in mind as you read.
Driversnote and MileIQ are popular for good reasons. Both detect drives automatically, both run on iPhone and Android, and Driversnote adds a web app and team features. If you regularly forget to log trips, automatic detection is a real advantage, and either app may be the right choice for you.
Some drivers want something different, though:
- No subscription. Both apps have free tiers with monthly trip limits and paid plans billed monthly or yearly. Check their sites or the App Store for current prices, because they change.
- No account. Both typically ask you to sign up, and your trips are stored in the cloud.
- Only the trips you choose. Automatic detection logs every drive, so you then have to sort business trips from personal ones. (Driversnote does also let you start and stop trips manually.)
Quidometer: a manual Start option
Quidometer is a driving mileage tracker and UK mileage log for iPhone. You press Start when a business trip begins and slide to stop when it ends. It does not detect drives automatically.
- HMRC approved mileage rates are built in (55p/25p for 2026–27), and you can edit them. See HMRC mileage rates 2026–27.
- There’s no account. Trips stay on your iPhone, and location is used only while a trip is running.
- CSV and PDF export is never locked.
- It’s free for 30 business trips, and personal trips are always free. Lifetime is £24.99, paid once, with no subscription and no ads.
- It needs iOS 17 or later.
Other options worth knowing about
If pay-once matters but you want automatic detection, Milometry is the closest match. It’s a one-off purchase, needs no account, and runs on iOS and Android. MileTrack focuses on keeping data on your device, and MileClear has free tracking with a paid tier. All three auto-detect drives. Check each app’s own page for current pricing and features.
Which is the best mileage tracker in the UK for you?
There isn’t one best mileage tracker for everyone in the UK; it depends on how you drive and what you’re happy to pay for. Roughly:
- You forget to log trips, use Android, or manage a team: an auto-detect app like Driversnote or MileIQ is probably the better choice.
- You want a deliberate, private log on iPhone that you pay for once: try Quidometer.
There’s a side-by-side table on the Driversnote vs MileIQ vs Quidometer page, and a plain guide to how to claim mileage from HMRC.

Is Quidometer a good Driversnote or MileIQ alternative?
It depends how you drive. Driversnote and MileIQ detect drives automatically and work on Android (Driversnote also has a web app and team features), so they are a better fit if you would otherwise forget to log trips. Quidometer is a manual Start/stop UK mileage log for iPhone: HMRC rates built in (55p/25p for 2026–27, editable), no account, trips on your phone, CSV/PDF export never locked, pay once after free business trips, no subscription. Disclosure: I make Quidometer. It is a record-keeping tool, not tax advice. Check GOV.UK.
Is there a UK mileage tracker with no subscription and no account?
Yes. Quidometer needs no account and has no subscription: free for a set of business trips, then a one-off Lifetime unlock, with personal trips always free. Milometry is another pay-once option and it auto-detects drives. Check each app’s App Store page for current pricing.
When should I stick with Driversnote or MileIQ instead?
If you forget to log trips, use Android, or manage a team, an auto-detect app like Driversnote or MileIQ is probably the better choice. Quidometer only records trips you start yourself and is iPhone only.
