What the app does
Fork Handles is a UK allotment and vegetable-growing planner for iPhone. It shows what to sow, plant and harvest each month, and lets you keep a log of your beds and plantings, with photos and reminders.
Your data stays on your phone
Everything you enter, including your beds, plantings, notes and photos, is stored on your device only. There is no account to create, no sign-in, and no cloud sync. We do not run a server that receives your plot data, and we cannot see it.
Weather and location
The weather view shows the forecast for your plot, including a frost warning. To do this the app asks Apple's WeatherKit service for the forecast at a location you choose. You can type a town or postcode (which Apple's location search service turns into coordinates), or tap Use my location once. If you use your location, the app rounds it to about 1 km before it asks for a forecast. Your location is used only for that request and is stored on your iPhone only, not by us. We do not receive it and we do not build a profile of where you are. You can remove the saved location in Settings, or switch location access off in iPhone Settings. Frost warnings are based on the latest forecast the app has fetched, so they are not live alerts while the app is closed.
Camera and photos
If you choose to add photos, the app can use your camera or let you pick pictures from your photo library. Photos are copied into the app's own storage on your iPhone and are never uploaded by us. You can delete any photo in the app.
Notifications
Harvest reminders are local notifications scheduled on your iPhone. They do not use a push-notification server. You can switch them off in the app or in iPhone Settings.
Optional purchase
Fork Handles is free to download. A one-time Full Plot unlock is handled through Apple (StoreKit). Payment details stay with Apple, and we do not receive your card number. There is no subscription.
Importing your data
If you import a backup file, it can replace your current log. The app asks you twice and offers to save a backup first.
What we do not do
- No tracking
- No advertising and no advertising IDs
- No analytics or third-party tracking SDKs
- No selling or sharing of your data
Links to other websites
The app links to guides from organisations such as the RHS and Garden Organic. When you tap a link, the page opens in an in-app web view and is loaded from that organisation's own website, which has its own privacy policy. Fork Handles is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.
Your control over your data
You can edit or delete beds, plantings and photos in the app. You can also export your plot from Settings. Uninstalling Fork Handles removes everything the app stored on your iPhone (a backup of your phone made through iCloud or your computer may still contain it, under your own control).
Children
Fork Handles is a general-purpose allotment and veg-growing log and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If the app ever changes how it handles data, we will update this page and the date above before the change is released.
