The Big Dinner Timer — Privacy Policy

Plain English for UK users. Last updated 11 October 2026.

Who we are

The Big Dinner Timer (previously called Christmas Food Timings, and before that Christmas Dinner) is published by Mike Dunnaway. Contact: mike@cryptohodl.uk.

What the app does

The Big Dinner Timer is a back-timed meal planner for iPhone. It covers Christmas dinner, a Sunday roast and a light barbecue plan. You choose a plan and when you want to eat, and the app works out a timeline of jobs, with optional reminders.

In short: the app collects no data

The app does not collect, share or sell any personal data. Nothing leaves your iPhone.

Your plans and settings stay on your phone

Your plans and settings are saved on your iPhone only. There is no account to create, no sign-in and no cloud sync. We do not run a server that receives your information, and we cannot see it.

No network connections

The app does not make network connections. It works without an internet connection, and it does not send anything anywhere.

Reminders

Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your iPhone. They do not use a push-notification server. They need your permission, which the app asks for when you tap Turn on reminders. You can change or switch off notifications at any time in iPhone Settings > Notifications.

Reminder sounds

Each mode (Christmas dinner, Sunday roast and Barbecue) has its own reminder sound. The sound files are bundled inside the app, so nothing is downloaded. Reminders sound only if your iPhone is not on silent.

Your own barbecue timer

In barbecue mode you can set your own timer by typing the minutes. It is a local notification on your iPhone plus a countdown on the screen, and the time you set is stored on your iPhone only. It is only a reminder: check with a thermometer, not just the time.

Running late

The Running late button moves the jobs you have not done yet later in your plan and reschedules your local reminders. It works on your iPhone only, and nothing is sent anywhere.

What the app does not have

Price and purchase

The Big Dinner Timer is a one-time purchase on the App Store, at the price shown there. There are no in-app purchases. Your payment is handled by Apple, and we do not receive your payment details. Apple's own data practices are covered by Apple's privacy policy.

Food safety information

The app uses guidance from the Food Standards Agency, Food Standards Scotland and Safefood; the sources are listed in the app. It is a planning aid. It is not a substitute for the instructions on your food's pack or the Food Standards Agency's current advice. Times in the app were last checked on 11 October 2026.

Barbecue: Check with a thermometer, not just the time. Cook chicken, pork, burgers, sausages and kebabs all the way through: steaming hot, no pink meat, juices clear. Use a food thermometer in the thickest part: at least 75°C. The FSS and Safefood say 75°C or above. The FSA's general cooking guide gives 70°C held for 2 minutes as its minimum. The app asks for at least 75°C. The app gives no cooking times for food on the barbecue; it gives the order of jobs and reminders to check.

The Big Dinner Timer is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of these organisations.

Deleting your data

We hold no data about you, so there is nothing for us to delete. Anything the app saved is on your iPhone and is removed if you delete the app. (A backup of your phone that you make yourself, for example through iCloud or your computer, may still contain app data, and that is under your own control.)

Children

The app is not directed at children. It collects nothing from anyone, including children.

Changes

If the app ever changes how it handles data, we will update this page and the date above before the change is released.
